Today, I cover the following:
1) National
The Supreme Court is hearing cases on content moderation by “Big Tech” companies this week. NetChoice makes the correct free speech argument these state laws are unconstitutional. Cato had a great event on this.
A fiscal commission is good in theory but is unlikely to solve anything and will likely worsen the situation by raising taxes. Here’s a good paper on why raising taxes should be a non-starter. I explained this during my recent interview on NTD News (watch under paywall).
Check out my Fox Business interview with Neil Cavuto about Sen. McConnell stepping down from being the minority leader in November and the need for spending restraint (watch interview under paywall).
The second estimate of real GDP in the fourth quarter of 2023 was revised down slightly to 3.2%, which the private economy expanded by 2.5% as unproductive government spending added 0.7 percentage points to the total. Consumer confidence and outlook weaken.
2) States
Top 10 reasons to support universal school choice in every state, which “Big Ed” doesn’t want. (see list under paywall)
Texas officials promised the “largest property tax cut in state history,” but my latest commentary at The City Journal notes how that didn’t happen.
Wyoming had a bad bill HB 203 to raise the state sales tax rate and not eliminate a property tax. But there’s a better way!
3) My Media Hits & More
Don’t miss my episode on the Wake Up America Show with Austin Peterson, where we discuss the labor market, economy, and more.
Next week, I’ll be in Baton Rouge for the Pelican Institute’s TECHnically Speaking event and Solutions Summit. I’ll be on a great panel.
Watch this week’s LPP episode on busting tax myths with Cato’s Dr. Adam Michel (see shorts from episode under paywall).
Don’t miss the upcoming episode on Monday with Dr. Dan Mitchell on “junk fees,” spending limits, and common sense economics. (Here’s my latest commentary at Daily Caller on “junk fees”)
Quote of the Week: Government is the problem!
Bible Verse of the Week: This is always where our trust should be: Christ!
